Contacts & Details
Choque Cultural (Culture Shock) is a contemporary art gallery based in São Paulo with strong links to underground culture, showing pop, outsider and young art in original style. In fact this unpretentious, influential, cutting-edge gallery is dedicated to Brazilian urban art from graffiti artists to skateboard designers and printmakers.
The contemporary art space Choque Cultural provides a legitimate, visible link to São Paulo’s underground/youth culture: since its launch in 2004, the gallery has welcomed practinoners of such diverse arts as graffiti, tattooing and graphic design. Its three floors often display an odd mixture of the mundane, the imaginative and macabre: work is scribbled everywhere, on walls, clothes or paper; visitors are greeted by flying heads and mythical monsters.
Choque Cultural has established itself also as a publisher, working with artists to produce exceptional screen print editions. This print store is a collaboration between Tristan Manco (coauthor of Graffiti Brasil) based in the UK and Choque.
