Christophe Guye Galerie
Contacts & Details
Christophe Guye Galerie is a contemporary art gallery representing national and international artists who consider the medium of photography within the larger context of contemporary art on a whole. First and foremost conceptual artists that chose to express their artistic vision through the use of the photography or film camera, or light sensitive materials, these young, emerging talents, mid-career and established artists notably contribute to the art historical discourse and the development within the photographic practice and contemporary art at large.
Founded by Christophe Guye in 2006 – former SCALO|GUYE Gallery – in Los Angeles, the gallery is since summer 2010 located in Zurich, Switzerland. Organising between five and seven shows a year, the programme varies between solo and group exhibitions including the works of the gallery’s artists, as well as guest artists curated by the gallery or guest curators. In addition, the work of the gallery embraces the long term consulting of collections, the nurturing of new collectors, as well as curating and organising exhibitions in collaboration with institutions, museums, and partner galleries. The gallery participates in Paris Photo, Photo London, Unseen Amsterdam and Art Show Busan. Moreover, the gallery offers limited edition art books from independent publishing houses such as amana and Foil, Tokyo as well as Mörel Books and Nobody Publishing, London, among others.
On the occasion of the 5-year anniversary in Zurich the gallery launched a biennial exhibition format that takes the pleasure of looking as its starting and focal point. In optometry, 20/20 vision stands for optimal visual acuity, and it points to the creative principle behind the exhibition: 20 experts (10 national/10 international) were each invited to nominate one artist who in their opinion has not yet received the recognition he or she deserves. The next edition will be presented in Summer 2017.
