Varfok Gallery

Founded in 1990 by Károly Szalóky

Várfok St. 11

The Várfok Gallery was founded in 1990 by Károly Szalóky. It was one of the first private galleries that had a purely contemporary profile. The permanent artists’ circle of 23 members consists mostly of painters and photographers.

In the past years, the Várfok Gallery has gone through numerous structural transformations to reach its current state. The single gallery has grown into a gallery group consisting of three branches. The core venue is the 200sqm gallery space, the Várfok Gallery. Its mobile walls and modern, professional lighting fixtures make it a cutting edge gallery space, complete with an extensive art library and a carefully designed storage room. The other important member of the group is the Várfok Project Room, which offers an opportunity for young artists to present their works without any limitations regarding genre. The third venue is the outdoor exhibition surface, the Gallery19. Protective cordons were set up around trees, offering altogether 57 surfaces to exhibit contemporary art.

The Várfok Gallery’s participation at international contemporary art fairs began in 1998, principally favouring French, Swiss and German fairs.
