Contacts & Details
Museion, the museum of modern and contemporary art of Bolzano works as an international research laboratory and as a commissioner of works of art, which are often produced directly on the premises. The aim is to be interdisciplinary, not only for figurative art, but also architecture, music, performance, film and theatre all have a space in the yearly programme.
Museion exhibits, preserves and communicates works of modern and contemporary art using an innovative, interdisciplinary approach. The exhibition space hosts shows, meetings, presentations and artistic projects that revolve around the most topical issues of the present day.
The heart of the museum is its collection, which is the most important archive of modern and contemporary art in South Tyrol. Since 1985 Museion has been building its collection of modern and contemporary pieces of art, which now consists of 4.500 works of the highest quality by renowned international artists.
Museion exhibits works from its collection on a regular basis, organizing thematic exhibitions to ensure that as many as possible of the works of art from the collection are available for public viewing. In addition, temporary exhibitions by prominent local, national and international artists are also run on a regular basis.
The exhibition programmes at Museion are generally structured around three guiding themes: research into the aesthetics of contemporary sculpture, the significant positions of women in art and socio-politically committed art.
