Palazzo Ducale

In 1923, the Italian State appointed the City Council to manage it as a public museum. In 1996, the Doge’s Palace became part of the Civic Museums of Venice network

Piazza San Marco 1, Venice, Italy

The iconic Doge’s Palace – know as Palazzo Ducale – was the heart of political and administrative life throughout the thousand-year history of the Venetian Republic. Until the fall of the Serenissima (1797) it was the residence of the Doge and the seat of power and control of the Republic.

On the inside you can admire masterpieces by Tiziano, Veronese, Tintoretto and original furnishings. You can also cross through the Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs) as part of a visit to the prisons and the Secret itineraries tour.
