Depot Basel was launched in 2011, honored with the first Kultur Förderpreis of Basel in 2012, for the Swiss Federal Design Award for Mediation in 2013 and the Alexander Clavel Price in 2014.
It is not a fair or a festival. Not a museum, a showroom or a gallery. It is a temporary place for contemporary design, a Depot, as Laura Pregger, Matylda Krzykowski, Moritz Walther and Elias Schäfer have chosen to name their organisation. A place in which contemporary design is set up for discussion. Their first base of operation was found in the former grain storehouse on the Erlenmatt in Basle.
Today the organisation is directed by Matylda Krzykowski and Rebekka Kiesewetter with the temporary and permanent support of an advisory board, partners and helpers, designers and non-designers. Their current location is a former Bureau de Change at Voltaplatz in Basle but their work plays an role on an international level.
Depot Basel endeavours to remain independent and work prospectively, to appoint and process current themes and to develop new presentation and mediation processes with the ability to reach a wide audience of interested parties, professionals and creative people from different fields and encourage a mutual exchange between them.
The space is open mainly on request or during exhibitions, projects, lectures, events, therefore it doesn’t have regulare opening times.
