Film Festival: Everybody Brings on Imagination a City

Instituto Tomie Ohtake, Rua Dos Coropés 88, Pinheiros

Following its proposal of interacting with the city, Instituto Tomie Ohtake has been taking to the streets and projecting on its façade documentary films that explore the urban experience through works of contemporary artists. The street becomes artists’ studios with the film festival Everybody Brings on Imagination a City – titled after a quote found in Ítalo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities” – that presents free screenings of documentary films from the series Videobrasil Authors’ Collection, created in 2000.

Revealing the thoughts and work process of internationally renowned contemporary artists is the central concern of the Videobrasil Authors’ Collection. Each edition, a new director is invited to investigate the work of an artist or group of artists trough an authorial perspective. The collection has focused on South-African William Kentridge (b. 1955, Johannesburg), Lebanese Akram Zaatari (b. 1966, Sidon), Cuban-American Coco Fusco (b. 1960, New York City), Brazilian Rafael França (b. 1957, Porto Alegre – 1991, Chicago), Chelpa Ferro (collective created in 1995) and Mau Wal [Maurício Dias (b. 1964, Rio de Janeiro) and Walter Riedweg (b. 1955, Luzern, Switzerland)], and Danish Olafur Eliasson (b. 1967, Copenhagen).

The latest edition of the festival will feature the films Certas Dúvidas de William Kentridge, directed by Alex Gabassi (51’18” Brazil, 2000), and Domingo, directed by Karim Aïnouz about the relationship between the work of Olafur Eliasson and the city of São Paulo (26’, Brazil, 2014).

The screening starts at 7:30 pm.
