Sun Xun: Reconstruction of the Universe

Between 21st and 22nd Streets, Miami Beach

As announced back in March during Art Basel Hong Kong, Sun Xun, considered one of China’s most talented young artists, has collaborated with guest curator Ruijun Shen and Audemars Piguet on the production of a major new artwork to be unveiled at Art Basel in Miami Beach, in December 2016.

The installation found a home on the Oceanfront in Miami Beach, just a block across from Collins Park. It includes 2D and 3D animation as well as sound combined with traditional scroll paintings, ink drawings and, various architectural and design elements. As he mentioned during his interview with My Art Guides the past March, his film “Time Spy”, shown in the installation, doesn’t have a storyboard. He makes his films by discussing the result with the characters. He doesn’t separate film, story and, drawing like the way it is traditionally done in the  film industry: he does everything together, film, story, sound, drawing. “The Audemars Piguet Art Commission is one of my most ambitious projects to date, a complex production which has required a great deal of technical accuracy, a vast team of assistants and the latest technologies. The intricate craftsmanship at the heart of Audemars Piguet is similar to my own artistic practice, and being selected to produce this commission has allowed me to work with the highest quality resources, with support from an exceptional team.” Sun Xun stated.
