Twin Cities Xin–Art–Lab, Shi Jing Xin

Triennale di Milano

21 Oct 201525 Oct 2015

Twin Cities, the show conceived by Shi Jing Xin is a diptych recounting two paradigmatic episodes while painting a portrait of the two most important cities in China. Beijing and Shanghai unfold through personal stories and memories, intimate visions, rather than epic settings, transformed into a choreography combining dance with experimental music, video, and poetry.

Grandmother, Stay Alive portrays moments of love, intimacy, and hope through the eyes of the director and choreographer’s grandmother, who lived in Shanghai witnessing first-hand the pivotal transformations it underwent along the course of her existence.

The Old Summer Palace on the other hand revolves around events at Yuan Ming Yuan, The Old Summer Palace, constructed in the eighteenth century also known as Gardens of Perfect Splendor, home to the Imperial Family.

The Palace was pillaged and destroyed in 1860, towards the end of the Second Opium War, an act of retaliation at the hands of the British High Commissioner.

Xin-Art-Lab is a collective of artists founded in 2009 and overseen by Shi Jing Xin, the youngest element in the group of directors who envisioned and directed the opening and closing ceremonies for the Beijing Olympic Games.
