A 37 90 89 – Die Erfindung der Neo-Avantgarde

Neuer Berliner Kunstverein

27 Sep 201827 Jan 2019

The exhibition A 37 90 89 – Die Erfindung der Neo-Avantgarde is dedicated to the project space A 37 90 89, founded in Antwerp in 1969, that significantly influenced the development of project spaces worldwide. Being the 50th anniversary of Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) and of the project space A 37 90 89 in Antwerp, the show is the occasion to reappraise the space in Antwerp and to reexamine some historical events, such as the 1968 social upheavals, and their influences on current times.

At the same time the exhibition highlights the relations of cooperation between the two art spaces and the way A 37 90 89 constituted a model for subsequent project spaces, and participatory initiatives.
