Aaron Young: Afterburner

During Art Basel Miami Beach, Kukje Gallery presents Afterburner, a site-specific installation of new work by Aaron Young (b. 1972, San Francisco). The installation consists of two elements each feeding into each other.

First the artist has used a blowtorch to burn the walls of the existing gallery, charring the drywall and leaving scorch marks recording his action. On top of the walls Young has installed a suite of ten works on canvas.

Employing the same controlled application of direct flame, the paintings balance formal composition with raw action. Evolving from Young‘s earlier “Burn Outs,” the charred surfaces negate all imagery while at the same time creating a new procreative surface. The Young‘s installation will be on view at M Building in Miami

Aaron Young‘s work has been exhibited internationally in many exhibitions including MACRO Museum, Rome (2010); Pan Museum, Naples (2009); Park Avenue Armory, New York (2008); the 2nd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (2007); the Serpentine Gallery, London (2006), the Whitney Biennial, New York (2006); and P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York (2005).
