Adam Pendleton: Our Ideas

Pace London, 5 Hanover Square, GV74+HQ, London, UK

Adam Pendleton is known for his works inspired by what he calls “Black Dada”, a mix of blackness, abstraction and avant-garde inspiration. Our Ideas brings together recent works by Pendleton, beside several pieces from previous bodies of works, spanning different media. Between them, four of his “Untitled (A Victim of American Democracy)” canvases are on display, characterised by black stripes of paint, juxtaposed with large cut-up language. They function as counterparts to the Black Dada paintings and drawings, also exposed, black on black monochromes. The video work “Just Back from Los Angeles: A Portrait of Yvonne Rainer” (2016–17) is presented in a black box environment in the gallery. The exhibitions also includes several collages and works from the “System of Display” (2018) series.

In addition to the exhibition at 6 Burlington Gardens, Pendleton will curate Pace’s booth at Frieze Masters 2018, bringing together a selection of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
