All’Estero and Dr K. Takes the Waters at Riva: Version A

A plus A, Calle Malipiero, San Marco 3073, 30124, Venice, Italy

The exhibition is the result of the collaboration between sixteen emerging curators from The School for Curatorial Studies Venice and the curator and writer Saim Demircan. Together they examined the text “W.G Sebald’s Schwindel. Gefühle (Vertigo)” as a tool for storytelling in exhibition making, focusing in particular on the narration of the journey from Vienna to Venice made by two literary figures, namely the author himself, or rather, a version of himself, and Dr K. The latter refers to the writer Franz Kafka, who travelled in Italy, back in 1913.

Taking inspiration from the writer’s narrative devices to confuse the authenticity of told events, such as repetition, doubling and disorientation, the group show is a collaborative project from the point of view of an unreliable narrator, featuring works by selected artists which try to respond to Sebald’s writing.
