Anne Imhof: Angst II

Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Invalidenstraße 50 – 51

Anne Imhof (b. in Gießen, 1978, lives in Frankfurt) will present her new production “Angst II” from September 14–25 at Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin. The historic hall of the Hamburger Bahnhof becomes the showplace of this exhibition as opera, whose figures after the opening evening are combined in every new constellations at the site of performance.

From choreographed actors, falcons, objects and musical arrangements evolves a formation whose pictorial act of origin becomes a part of its presentation. Anne Imhof’s images develop and change across the duration of an exhibition, dissolve and reassemble in later works. This exchange of images also shapes Imhof’s latest production Angst: Kunsthalle Basel, Berlin’s Nationalgalerie at Hamburger Bahnhof and La Biennale de Montreal will present three exhibitions by the artist in 2016 that, like three acts, are linked and set in relation to one another by a composition that Imhof calls an “opera.” Imhof deconstructs the composition in each of the three stations to three different “exhibitions as opera,” in which she rearranges, modifies and replaces the individual elements over the course of the exhibition to changing, new images. The formation, shown in the historic hall of the Hamburger Bahnhof, becomes a temporary pictorial composition which consists of choreographed actors, falcons, objects, drones and a musical composition.

Curated by Anna-Catharina Gebbers and Udo Kittelmann.

On September 14, the opening of Angst II, an “exhibition as opera,” will take place from 8 pm to 1 am at Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin; the performance variations will take place on September 15–18 and 22–25, from 8 pm–12 am. The admission to all performances is free.
