Anne Imhof (b. 1978), recent winner of the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2015, presents an audacious new project that combines her interest in performance, drawing, and installation with a live element that will extend over the duration of the exhibition.
A mix of amateur and formally trained performances enact what the German artist considers an opera of sorts, constructed through a mix of cryptic gestures, an abstract musical composition, and moving sculptural elements. Expanding on her signature vocabulary and materials (dripping liquids, punching bags, task-like movements, exhaustion), Angst troubles the boundaries of the body, time, and the fleeting images created between them.
