Bhutan, Journey beyond the Sky

ICI – Magazzino del Caffè, Rio Marin, Campo San Simeon Grando, Santa Croce 923

The core subject and containt of the exhibition “Bhutan, Journey beyond the sky” is the screening of the documentary movie “Bhutan, un petit pays possédé du ciel”, created in 1975 by the two French documentarists Anne and Ludovic Segarra accompanied with slides show of that time and the extraordinary Bhutanese tissue collection from Alain Rouveure, never exhibited before selected by the curator François Pannier.

ICI Venice offers to discover this little unknown country: the Himalaya. Furthermore, Bhutan, like Venice, owns a very important textile tradition as to be considered of one the thirteen national sacred arts.

As already made explicit, primary desire of ICI Venice is to produce ethnographic art exhibitions that try and create a continuous dialogue with the contemporary and local heritage.

Besides the beautiful scenery setting made up with the support of Fornasetti – Col and Son, during the period of the Venice Biennale 2015 and the Universal Exhibition Milan 2015, two young Italian artists are invited to interfere within the spaces of the Magazzino del Caffè: Marco Casella and Daniele Pulze.

Only one constraint is given to them: integrating their artistic pieces to the existing ethnographic items on show from “Bhutan, journey beyond the sky”.

Unlike the contemporary art pieces we are used to meet in the galleries, within white cubes, inside dedicated museums nor classical museums and public housing, Marco and Daniele art installations deal with inconspicuousness. It is all about fitting to the existing scenography and exhibited pieces and merging up into questioning the visitor. These installations will there launch a unique aesthetic dialogue between the ethnographic art, the contemporary art, dragging the visitor in that new journey.
