The exhibition curated by Tania Bruguera, investigates Camilo Godoy‘s multidisciplinary practice, which encompasses video, photography, performance, and installation to investigate political moments, their media coverage and the consequent production of history.
Godoy questions official historical narratives, to subvert and analyse them under alternative perspectives in order to study the ways in which history and official information are produced and spread. The pieces on view express this early interest of the artist, such as the video works “Noticiero” (2002/2017) and “Shock and Awe” (2003/2018), which reinterpret news cycles originally aired during the late 2000s, recorded and edited by the artist, and the series of drawings “Everybody knows that they are guilty” (2013 – ongoing), in which Godoy reproduces with human blood all the US presidents’ signatures.
A space with green screen walls, like a television studio, provides the set for the artist to perform a news variety show twice over the exhibition period. The interventions, named “En Vivo y En Directo”, feature also artists, writers, performers, and activists to discuss news stories, historical events, and political issues in a multitude of languages and mediums.
