Cappelli & Ranzo: Ten silver rhodium-plated rings

Galleria Antonia Jannone presents a new collaboration with Sergio Cappelli and Patrizia Ranzo: ten sculptural rings on show for the first time, together with preparatory sketches and ceramic models.

Sculptural objects that recount the Mediterranean world. A world of abstract geometries that multiply in the manner of Escher’s visions, as pure and minimalist as Rudofsky’s architecture; at times as excessive and grand as jewels of the past, their weight demonstrating a solid, architectural dimension. Rings that create large shadows like rocks and which, like rocks, also stand alone, independently.

“These bold rings, though hollow inside, are visually solid: as large as certain jewels of the past, they possess a high specific weight, albeit metaphoric. Rings that evoke memories of the Greek and Spanish villages in the work of Rudofsky: sun-bleached buildings that cling to the coastline, overlapping cubes of whitewashed walls, shady porticos, steep external stairways, conical chimneys and candid vaulted roofs. Clear-cut, mysterious landscapes that skilfully control shadow, light and openings, as do the accompanying ceramic models. In this present day, considered the age of chaos, the exhibition seems to want to placate the rising anxiety by introducing a new sense of order, capable of providing reassurance.”
