Carles Asensio Monrabà & Miguel Errazu: Restoration of Modern Time Rock ‘n’ roll
Restoration of the Modern Time is a simulated reconstruction of the pro-filmic space and time in a scene from Modern Times, at a speed of 24 frames per second. In the scene selected for intervention, which is unique in the entire film in spite of its levity, Charlot takes a break in the baths of the factory where he works, and is caught by the surveillance cameras controlled by the company’s employer. Combining digital technology and film reprinting, the piece restores the actor’s movement and gesture, released from the syncopated rhythm of the original footage, and gives a new meaning to the relationship between control, subjectivity and technology.
