Carlos Arias: the Thread of Life. Embroideries 1994-2015

For over two decades, embroidery has served the Chilean artist Carlos Arias as an ideal to question conventions of gender, class and race, which are colonial structures of the Art of the Americas. Through his work as a painter and embroiderer, the artist has made a critique of representation and created a series of works that subvert aspects of painting and dichotomies of male and female, high and low, the materiality and desire.
