Danny Lyon: Message to the Future

“My greatest strength has been empathy with others different from myself.” Danny Lyon

The artist is the one of Jewish immigrants and he was just 20 years old in 1963 when he took the photographs of young African-Americans protesting racial conflict and police brutality.

The year before, Lyon had joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the most important African-American civil rights organization, and became its official photographer and went on to document all of its events.
