Donna Huanca: Lengua De Bartolina Sisa

Travesía Cuatro, Madrid, Calle San Mateo, 16

This is the first exhibition by the artist in Spain and it’s taking place in the spaces of Traversia Cuatro.

The exhibition features artworks in which Donna Huanca explores the territory of the body within its condition of surface and matter, and its identity as creation of movement and presence within the architecture. In her practice, the artist uses cosmetics both as tools of painting and as instruments for transformation. Huanca draws upon esthetic forms like camouflage, simulation and fusion in a poetry that links painting, sculpture and performance, presenting a stage that showcases an essay about the fragmentation of identity.

Huanca’s totemic sculptures combine materials that stand out for their tactile qualities, natural and synthetic fiber fabrics alongside cultural artifacts that have lost their original function and are reworked to create a new decontextualized composition.
