Emiliano Di Cavalcanti: Conqueror of Lyricism

“I am my character,” said Di Cavalcanti about himself. Nothing could define him better. Illustrator, designer, caricaturist and painter, among all painters of Modernism, Di Cavalcanti was the only artist who has remained active from the beginning to the end of the modern period (until his death in 1976) and the one whose work could portray the nuances and lyricism of culture and the Brazilian people. More than two decades of active production, comprising the years 1925-1949, will be on display.
“Di Cavalcanti – Conqueror of Lyricism”, curated by Denise Mattar, with consultation of Elisabeth Di Cavalcanti. The show, which takes place from March 17 to May 28, will bring together about 50 works of the artist – including oils, watercolors, gouaches – and is presented within the spaces of the gallery Almeida e Dale, who previously presented exhibition of works by Fernando Botero, Aldo Bonadei, Alfredo Volpi, Alberto da Veiga Guignard, Willys de Castro, Candido Portinari and Ismael Nery.

On 8 April, during the SP-Arte, Galeria Almeida and Dale will be hosting a book launch. Di Cavalcanti – Conqueror of lyricism (the book) will bring more than 200 works of the artist, published by Editora Capivara. Being one of the most famous and important Brazilian artists, Di Cavalcanti has few publications about his work, that were also curated by Denise Mattar in collaboration with Elisabeth Di Cavalcanti.
