Eugenia Grandchamp des Raux: Dance

Solo photography exhibition by French artist, Eugenia Grandchamp des Raux. At the age age five, she had her first dance class in Paris, soon after dance has become her passion, watchword, and now, her life.

These photographs attest to a deep desire to use the immediacy of a fixed and static image to communicate observed motion and the dream perceived at a specific moment.
The blurred effect works as a delicate manner of transcribing dance, movement, poetry. This is the thread followed by Eugenia Grandchamp des Raux in her depictions of festive and colourful moments. In the series of photographs presented by the Galerie Agnès Monplaisir, we are guided to the heart of carnival in Rio as if we were ascending from Purgatory into life and light. The blurred effect is the continuation of the movement that belongs to life. It’s the representation of the vibration that emanates from a movement.

Her images take us on a voyage in space as well as time. Thus, the photographer uses her lens to reveal a contemporary vision of the scenes inscribed by tradition.
