Fred Sandback

Cardi Gallery

22 Feb 201806 Jul 2018

On February 21st, Cardi Gallery (organised in collaboration with the Estate of Fred Sandback) presents a solo exhibition of 8 sculptures, drawings and photostats by the American artist Fred Sandback, reflecting the progression of the artist’s examination of space. The exhibition’s fully -illustrated catalogue is complete with an essay by Germano Celant.

Fred Sandback (1943–2003) delineated three-dimensional space and created accurate yet subtle planes and architectural volumes using diverse and essential materials including metal, elastic cord and then later on in his career, acrylic yarn, which consented the artist ”to play with something existing and not existing at the same time.”

The artist is mainly considered a sculptor despite his penchant for drawing and a natural inclination toward architecture. Sandbank was an influential figure for Minimal and Conceptual Art and likewise for contemporary sculptors and installation artists.
