Geng Jianyi: Stubborn Image

OCAT Shanghai is pleased to present “Geng Jianyi: Stubborn Image” from September 25 to November 20, 2016. Making use of both galleries A and B, artist Geng Jianyi presents new video installations produced in 2016.

The works presented in this exhibition are aligned with Geng Jianyi’s attitude on making “non-artwork” throughout his artistic practice. Under the artist’s remodeling of the spaces, five types of handheld lamps and flashlights that function as projection devices transform the twenty-two built-in concrete pillars in the venue into reflective conduits of the videos, and the labyrinth-like makeshift walls separate these pillars.

The viewing experience of this exhibition aims to provoke the viewer’s reflection on the liaison between everyday life, time, entirety and isolation.
