Honeit Kerstin: A Game Between I and me

balzer projects introduces German artist Kerstin Honeit (b. 1977 in Berlin, living and working in Berlin and Kassel) to a Swiss audience. Her first solo show brings together work from different periods and media, including video and photography. On view will be “Becoming 10” (2009/10), “Joint Property” (2013), “Pigs in Progress” (2013), and “On & Off” (2010). During the exhibition opening and artist talk, Honeit will talk about “mi castillo, tu castillo”, a project that she is working on as the current Artist in Residence and Scholarship holder of the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

Berlin is a key component in Honeit’s work. This city not only functions as backdrop, but its social, cultural and political complexities inform her artistic practice. A central element in Honeit’s work is the study hegemonic images and visual structures within medial productions. She negotiates personal stories, issues of gender and identity construction and stereotypes; time and again, disembodied voices in film-dubbing and lip-syncing are made the subject of her videos, installations and performances.

In 2010 Kerstin Honeit received a Masters in Fine Arts and Theater Design at Kunsthochschule Weissensee, Berlin. Since 2014 she is teaching at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. Most recently her work has been shown at Gallery 400 in Chicago, CCNY (New York), Site Gallery, Sheffield, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, the Videonale.15 and Kunstmuseum Bonn.
