Independent: Eduardo Terrazas

Mexican artist Eduardo Terrazas has his solo presentation at Timothy Taylor, New York, for the 2019 edition of Independent. Terraza has been working across a wide range of fields, such as architecture, design, museology, urban planning and art, becoming one of the main figures of the Mexican contemporary art scene.

He came to prominence by designing the logo for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, which was based on elementary geometric forms drawn from Huichol techniques, that later became fundamental in the artist’s language. His signature style, in fact, joins elements from Mexican folk art and geometric drawings by the artist himself, in which he experiments with the formal relationships between elements. For the occasion, the artist exhibits works form the “Tablas” subseries, drawn from Terrazas’ ongoing project, “Possibilities of a Structure”: it consists of a continuous investigation of the endless possible variations of simple geometric structures and patterns.
