It is the first comprehensive solo exhibition by Jarbas Lopes in France. The focal point of the Brazilian artist’s practice is exchange and social gathering. With the help of his works, he becomes a social engineer who brings together different communities to comment on socio-political local or international circumstances. For his projects he uses materials, tools and objects that he can find in his everyday context, and engages the surrounding people. His aim is to adopt craft aesthetics to promote interpersonal exchange and favor the creative process and social interaction among non-artists.
Lopes is in residency on site and is thereby able to use Altkirch’s community as a inspiration for the displayed works.
