Curated by Petra Joos in close collaboration with the artist, “Thing Indescribable” is the largest solo exhibition to date dedicated to the American artist Jenny Holzer. The exhibition path investigates Holzer’s longstanding career, from the earlier works to more recent ones, including her “Truisms” and “Inflammatory Essays” posters referencing the artist’s beginnings in street art, as well as drawings, objects and ephemera from the artist’s archive. Besides them, on view also more recent paintings and watercolours and some robotic assemblies specifically designed for the exhibition. The display includes as well works on paper and sculptures by other artists who proved influential to Holzer’s practice, such as Rosa Bonheur, Paul Klee, Louise Bourgeois, Paul Thek, Charles Burchfield, Kiki Smith, Lee Lozano, and Nancy Spero, among others.
