Kaari Upson: Go Back the Way You Came

Kunsthalle Basel

29 Aug 201910 Nov 2019

Born in 1972 in California, Kaari Upson presents her first institutional solo show in Europe at the Kunstahalle Basel. The exhibit collects new wood and latex sculptures, as part of Upson‘s ongoing exploration of both the figure of the mother and the uncanny double. By replicating familiar natural and architectural elements, the artist tackles themes like consumer culture, family, and “Americanness” and at the same time eviscerates parts of her childhood’s environment.
