Maribel Domènech: Flutuar apesar de tudo

The latest show by Maribel Domènech, Flutuar Apesar de Tudo [To Float After All], comprises a set of sculptures, photographs and installations conceived as maritime metaphors. In this new series, the artist continues to develop her research about materials that conduct energy, be it sound or light – the latter, emanating or being reflected in wires, glass and metal.

For the curator Amador Griñó, the sea appears as what is chaotic and unpredictable, opposed to our experience in dry land, with concrete forms and frontiers. With the advent of this new theme, her sculpture-installations in the form of dresses, formerly created with light wires, are now formed by the intertwinement of fishing hooks.

The sculpture-installations are reinforced with words like uncertainty, resistance and courage, which where reproduced in metal and whose shadows are projected on the gallery’s wall, contributing to the immaterial atmosphere that is already characteristic of the artist’s work.
