Riccardo Crespi presents the second solo exhibition by Italian artist Marta Sforni (Milan, 1966, lives and works between Berlin and Venice) at the gallery in Milan. The artist glorifies the ornament and appropriates decorative objects with a scrupulous attention to detail leading to a “revived abstraction”.
The artist has focused on the mirror in her latest works, using it as a motif in order to meditate upon duality: object/reflection, observer/observed, depth/surface, light/darkness.
On show are a series of oil paintings and a selection from the new body of works, Mirror. Sforni crops sections of richly framed mirrors drawing attention to a delicate and ornamental detail that interjects between the viewer and the infinite space within the mirror, she looks beyond whilst not letting go of the past.
