Martine Syms: Grand Calme

“Gran Calme” is the Sadie Coles‘s first exhibition with Los Angeles-based artist Martine Syms.  Pushing the boundaries of new technologies, Syms’s exhibition sees the artist transform herself into an interactive avatar, inviting engagement from the audience and responding in real time. Using advanced VR and motion capture technology, Syms has scanned her expressions and movements to create an idiosyncratic imitation of her gesture and speech. Born in 1988, Syms combines conceptual grit, humour and social commentary using a combination of video, installation and performance.
