Mediterranea 17 Young Artists Biennale: A Natural Oasis – a transnational project

Viafarini DOCVA, Fabbrica del Vapore - Via Procaccini, 4, 20154, Milan, Italy

In the occasion of Mediterranea 17 Biennale Young Artists, Viafarini presents the participations of the Republic of San Marino to BJCEM with a two-year research project curated by Alessandro Castiglioni and Simone Frangi. Fourteen international artists and researchers participated in this stage-based process on research and mobility which took place between 2014 and 2015.

The four opening days of A Natural Oasis at Viafarini (from next October 22 to 25), will focus on crucial aspects of archival culture through heterogenous devices and live performances. These aspects triggered the groups’ aim to carry out collective research lasting over a period of two years to analyze geopolitical and social problems related to archives: collection of documents, enumeration and organization of materials, creation of archives as system construction and archival ideologies. Through a narrative display, co-designed by the participants themselves, the research group of A Natural Oasis will recall all the steps of this transnational project born in San Marino and migrated to Milan and Gibraltar.

A Natural Oasis is dedicated to contemporary art critic and teacher Roberto Daolio who curated Provoc’Arte in 1991 and devoted himself to study the methods through which the projects of young artists and their languages could be developed.
