For the second time, Havana City will be inserted into the large “mapping” of the Third Paradise by Michelangelo Pistoletto (b.1933, Biella); this time with the execution of the symbol of the Third Paradise as a performance in the Plaza de la Catedral, a play where approximately one hundred musicians will form the symbol while playing different percussion instruments.
The Third Paradise project of Michelangelo Pistoletto began with the creation of the symbol referred to as the New Sign of Infinity.
The word ‘paradise’ finds its origin in ancient Persian and means protected garden.
This symbol was borne out of the reconstruction of the mathematical sign of infinity, in which the two circles symbolize nature and artifice.
The central ring is the union of the other two and stands as a matrix of rebirth. It is a representation that is fixed yet active, the bearer of a universal perspective.
This symbol expresses a concept of responsible social transformation, a great ideal that brings art, science, economics, spirituality and politics together into one. The idea of bringing the Third Paradise to Havana is crucial, primarily since Cubans need to be conscious of their human and natural wealth for the future of their country. The Havana Biennial is the perfect backdrop given its great visibility all over the world. In the context of the Biennial, the curatorial concept of its twelfth edition in 2015 will allow the city and its people to be experienced, as well as its population and professional communities, in addition to “its micro-policies and micro-spaces for socialization”.
