Nino Cais: The Mystical Body

In the exhibition The Mystical Body, at Bulgari Boutique, the artist showcases a selection of recent works dedicated to the figure of the Venus. The female figures is represented both fragility and strength, the beauty is both eternal and ephemera. Timeless images are juxtaposed to the Bulgari jewels, and the artist has created a site specific work to celebrate preciousness and unicity.

Nino Cais (b. 1969, São Paulo) sees the world with attentive and wondered eyes, like foreigners and children use to do. The little rituals that govern human relationships, the way people arrange their houses, dress or talk about what was on TV, all about daily life, fascinates him. His creative process is based on visual metaphors in which he mixes up different realms of meaning like houseware and classical sculpture. More than often, we see in Nino’s works, his own body blending with memorabilia and all sorts of objects yielding for insightful and yet enigmatic associations.

Nino Cais got his Bachelor’s degree and license in Art at Santa Marcelina University (Fasm) in São Paulo, where he did his first individual exhibition in 2001 A Trama Refeita (The Remade Weft). Since then, he has participated in several shows in Brasil, such as the 30th International São Paulo Biennial (2012) and the 3rd Bahia Biennial (2014), as well as in Mexico, France, USA, China, Portugal and Lithuania, where his works were exhibited at Kaunas Art Biennial TEXTILE 07. In 2014, he had an important solo show in Paço das Artes Museum. Nino Cais works and lives in Sao Paulo.
