Regionale 17

Kunsthaus Baselland, St. Jakob-Strasse 170, Muttenz / Basel

The city is more than just an agglomeration of people and architecture; a city is also made of what occurs between the built and the planned. This is where private space encounters public space. In their works the invited artists sense and question all that which is thoughtlessly abandoned, accidentally created, absurd and yet poetic. A central focus is also the question of the role urban spaces play in the generation of social fabric.

A collaborative project by the La Kunsthalle Mulhouse and the Kunsthaus Baselland unites two exhibitions that draw the subject of the city into focus. On one hand the two cities of Mulhouse and Basel, or Muttenz specifically, will be symbolically united across a national border by the exhibition, on the other the invited artists themselves investigate this very topic of city, architecture and urban life in their works. From this cooperation emerge two complementary exhibitions.

In addition, American author Jennifer K. Dicks, who lives in Mulhouse, is invited to create a poetic bridge between Basel and Mulhouse during the course of the two exhibitions, a project which will be visible in various locations. The course of her writing can be followed on the websites of both institutions.
