Rena Effendi: The Crossing Point

The exhibition “The Crossing Point” arrives at Gary Nader Art Center, Miami after a first show inaugurated on September 15th at Gary Nader NY in New York.

This initiative, started by philanthropist Amed Khan, Gary Nader, Effendi and Canadian philanthropist Frank Giustra, aims to address visitors’ attention to the urgent crisis which Syrian refugees in Greece and Turkey are living everyday.

“The Crossing Point exhibit is going to highlight some of the areas that have been most affected by the Syrian refugee crisis and how it has had such a tragic impact on the lives of those involved,” said Nader. “It is crucial to raise awareness and funds for this cause and do what we can to provide a better life for the thousands of distressed and helpless families.”
“Not only do Rena’s photographs capture the tragedy of this epic crisis, but they capture the resilience of the human spirit,” said Giustra. “In her own words, she is not only looking to evoke pity and compassion but rather respect and admiration for these people who have endured so much.”

Born in Baku, Azerbaijan and grown up in the USSR, Rena Effendi focuses her photography on issues of social and civil conflict, and the oil industry’s effect on people and the environment
