Rirkrit Tiravanija: UFO

Rirkrit Tiravanija‘s installation in the Jumex Foundation square aims at creating a link between the work and the viewer, turning the public space into a very active one where visitors are not passive observers but participants of a meeting.

The museum goes from being a closed to being a social space that can be inhabited in a playful way. Tiravanija created a work which is a revival of the project by Slovak artist Július Koller (1939- 2007), entitled Ping Pong Society, this piece consisted of a tennis club in 1970 installed in a gallery in Bratislava , Slovakia, where it was used by the public for a month.

The artist’s reinterpretation is a group of seven ping pong tables with the phrase Tomorrow is the Question, their rackets that have a question mark , which are placed inside the stroke of a tennis court. Tiravanija ‘s intention is to create a work where access is free and for free. Thus, the essence of this piece lies in relationships that create community among users.
