The Uninhabitants

The gallery presents an exhibition on the borderline between art and design, which is based on a group of works, which – at first glance – represent a domestic environment, the world of inhabiting.

The artworks shown by the two artists Gal Weinstein and Patrizia Giambi, in collaboration with Opifici Dal Re, picture objects of one’s daily use. However, Giambi’s doors or Weinstein’s disintegrating kitchen on a closer examination reveal a quite different vocation that betrays an urge to un-inhabit rather than to inhabit: doors that do not protect, nor separate and a kitchen in which you can’t cook. Instead of conveying a reassuring sense of hearth and home, the works expose their inability to function once they leave the artist’s studio.

The exhibition thereby displays the fundamental divergence between the meanings implied in the creation of a work and its actual use.
