Tom Friedman: Always The Beginning

Featuring new large-scale works by artist Tom Friedman, the exhibition Always the Beginning constitutes his fifth solo exhibition at the gallery. These new pieces are revisited from the entries of sketchbooks he has accumulated over the years, collecting word associations, brainstorms and detailed studies. The individual pages have been blown up and manipulated with pencils and watercolours, questioning their original function of preparatory drawings to celebrate images’ formal qualities.

Friedman’s works always carry autobiographical elements, recreating arbitrary details from his own life with an ironic eye and the aim to skew viewers’ perception of ordinary, day-to-day objects and experiences.
The exhibition features also a group of video projections which use complex computer technology to plays with the immateriality of natural light and question notions of objecthood.
