TRIO Bienal 2015: Forma e Matéria – Limites do Tridimensional em Campos Expandidos

With works by 160 artists from 44 countries, the first edition of TRIO – Rio Three-Dimensional Biennial is curated by Marcus Lontra and happens in nine art spaces in the city. All exhibited pieces approach the three-dimensional (sculpture, installation, object) and its expanded fields, such as paintings, photography, performance and video. This year’s Bienal is titled after a song by rapper Marcelo D2, “Quem foi que disse que não existe amanhã?” [Who said that there is no tomorrow?], a reference to art’s utopian aspect that survives even in moments of crisis and uncertainty.

The exhibition presented at CCBB Rio, Forma e Matéria – Limites do Tridimensional em Campos Expandidos [Form and Matter – Limits of the Three-Dimensional in Expanded Fields], presents a panorama of concepts regarding matter within the context of the three-dimensional production through pieces that explore the limits of formal investigation. Works that are perishable, organic, eatable, invisible, made of sound, residual and mechanic can be seen at the exhibit, along other pieces that can be considered within the expanded field of the three-dimensional, such as painting, photography, drawing, video and performance.
