TRIO Bienal: Reflexões sobre o Reflexo – Dinâmicas do Cinetismo no Tridimensional

Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Avenida Rio Branco, 199 Centro

This exhibition that integrates TRIO Bienal explores mirroring effects and opacities issues in the three-dimensional construction. Reflexões sobre o Reflexo – Dinâmicas do Cinetismo no Tridimensional [Reflections about the Reflection – Dynamics of Kinetics in the Three-Dimensional] comprises works whose dynamic proposes a reading about the reflection as a kinetic possibility of the sculptural object, a tradition that began in Brancusi (1876, Romania – 1957, France) and goes till Anish Kapoor (b. 1954, Mumbai, India).

With works by 160 artists from 44 countries, the first edition of TRIO – Rio Three-Dimensional Biennial is curated by Marcus Lontra and happens in nine art spaces in the city. All exhibited pieces approach the three-dimensional (sculpture, installation, object) and its expanded fields, such as paintings, photography, performance and video. This year’s Bienal is titled after a song by rapper Marcelo D2, “Quem foi que disse que não existe amanhã?” [Who said tomorrow doesn’t exist?], a reference to art’s utopian aspect that survives even in moments of crisis and uncertainty.
