Wolfgang Tillmans: What is Different?

Carré d'Art - Musée d'Art Contemporain, Place de la Maison Carrée

The exhibition What is different? reveals the artist’s different ways of instituting a relation to the visual and physical world but also the other. It features mainly recent images by Tillmans, which express both the fragility and the strength of individuals through their gestures, sartorial styles and attitudes. The questioning of the representation of the body is also central in his practice; they show how the media and social codes oblige us to conform to standardized images.

After two major exhibitions in 2017 at the Tate Modern in London and at the Fondation Beyeler, the exhibition of Nîmes is thought specifically for the spaces of the museum and will be accompanied by a publication, from which it takes its title.
