Youssef Nabil: Once Upon a Dream

Palazzo Grassi

22 Mar 202010 Jan 2021

Palazzo Grassi, Venice, hosts the solo exhibition of the Egyptian artist Youssef Nabil (Cairo, 1972), named ” Once Upon a Dream”.  Using a popular ancient techinique, typical of family portraits and film posters around the streets of Cairo, Nabil hand-paints his pictures of a legendary Egypt, referring symbolism and abstraction. Most of the scenes explore topics such as the search for identity or the political and social concerns of the present days.

The exhibition path is divided into thematic areas, uncovering the progress of Nabil’s practice, from his early works up to the most recent ones. On view also some video works, namely “Arabian Happy Ending”, “I Saved My Belly Dancer” and “You Never Left”.

The exhibition occurs along with “Henri Cartier-Bresson: Le Grand Jeu”, set up on the first floor of Palazzo Grassi.
