During Art Basel, Audemars Piguet unveils the first work for the inaugural Audemars Piguet Art Commission.

Swiss artist and composer Robin Meier was selected as the first artist for theAudemars Piguet Art Commission and has worked with the commission’s renowned guest curator Marc-Olivier Wahler, on the production of a major new artwork. Based on the theme of “synchronicity” and the spontaneous emergence of cycles in nature, Meier’s installation meaningfully connects seemingly unrelated concepts and objects into a single beating pulse.

The large-scale installation at the Volkshaus, Basel, connects disparate fields by harmonizing music, fireflies, bioluminescent bacteria and crickets to a common pulse. The viewer is invited to walk through the installation to witness all of these self-synchronising organisms and systems beating together, as if driven by a single rhythmic force. Through the help of Audemars Piguet, Meier has traveled the globe to research specific fireflies and insects. Through this, Meier has investigated how this order emerges from chaos and uses this scientific research as a tool to express artistic ideas within his new installation. Meier’s interest in temporal patterns echoes the harmonious conformity manifested in the intricate mechanics ofAudemars Piguet‘s timepieces.
