Context Art Miami 2016

One Block North of the Art Miami Pavilion, 118 NE, 34th Street

Celebrating its fifth edition, Context Art Miami has been relocated to a standalone 65,000 square-foot pavilion just one block from its sister fair, Art Miami, on 34th Street (between NE 1st Avenue and Buena Vista Blvd.). The new location will allow fairgoers to travel with ease between the two fairs under Art Miami LLC, creating a perfect art crawl for established collectors, curators, art institutions and art advisors. As an exciting addition this year, new exhibitors to Context Art Miami include London’s Paul Stolper Gallery, which will offer an installation of new works from English musical genius and visual artist, Brian Eno. Eno will show new light boxes, which seamlessly phase through combinations of seductive self-generated ‘colourscapes.’ Zurich’s Galerie Andres Thalmann will make its first appearance at the fair, presenting a solo booth of works by Katja Loher. Gibbons & Nicholas from Dublin also will make their debut in Miami with a selection of emerging, mid-career and established Irish artists.

In addition to the 100 exhibiting galleries, Context Art Miami will feature a series of special projects, including an event with the Galleries Association of Korea, Sound Positions, Context Projects and Sculpture Garden.

Galleries Association of Korea: Galleries Association of Korea, as a meeting of nationwide galleries, was founded in 1976 with a sense of duty to the establishment of order in the circulation and to foster a sound art market as well as to promote the understanding and popularization of art and contribute to the global advancement of the culture of art. It was registered as a social organization of the ministry of culture and information in 1979. By being promoted to a corporation in 1991, its social obligation has been strengthened.

Sound Positions: Curated by Christoph Cox, Sound Positions creates immersive and intimate situations for listening to work by an international selection of emerging and established sound artists. The exhibition will featureindividual listening stations, each dedicated to the work of one artist.

Sculpture Garden: Curated by Claire Breukel, Sculpture Garden is a curatorial program of site-specific artist’s presentations. The exhibition will display experimental and innovative developments in contemporary sculpture.

Context Projects: This year,Context Projects will feature artists working with new technologies. From avant-garde wearables to interactive art and new media art, the exhibition will explore the relationship between the audience, technology, performance and art.
