Design Miami/ 2016

This year, Design Miami/ returns to Miami Beach with a new fair layout and a refreshed gallery programme, as well as new collaborations and projects.

For this 12th edition, Design Miami/ confirms itself as the perfect platform for collecting, exhibiting and celebrating design culture and commerce.

The fair presents the world’s top galleries, showcasing design furniture, lighting and art objects. Each section combines commercial opportunities and dialogue sessions with lectures, talks and panels.

The Galleries section sees the participation of the leading international design galleries who will showcase curated exhibitions to private and public collectors. New entries include Chamber of New York City, The Future Perfect of New York City and San Francisco, Mercado Moderno of Rio de Janeiro and Giovanni Beltran of Miami. Curio, the newest section of the fair, will maintain its tradition of presenting itself as a cabinet of curiosities while the Commissions section asked young architects to build an installation for the fair’s atrium. This year, the Design Miami/ Visionary Award, sponsored by Officine Panerai, goes to SHoP Architects: the studio is presenting “Flotsam & Jetsam” an installation which deals with the understanding of the city today, revealing both the environmental and technological nature of the city. The Collaboration venue presents immersive installations, curated shows in partnership with museums and institutions. During the fair visitors can also enjoy Talks sessions: the programme features a variety of topics about design and collecting, engaging visitors in interactive sections. In the Satellites section, visitors can look at curated exhibitions which express an educational and curatorial aspect.
