The Mandrake

The Mandrake is a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of London’s Fitzrovia offering 34 rooms, a terrace with an adjoining glasshouse apothecary, the Waeska bar and the restaurant YOPO.

The Mandrake is a carefully curated way to reset mind and body, preparing guests to be transported into an alternative reality; an award-winning place that subverts expectations to offer a meeting place and creative melting point for global nomads.  The incredibly talented team has woven a mystery to enchant and delight the senses at every turn – seamlessly blending art, gastronomy, mixology, and spirituality into an unforgettable experience; something that no other venue, let alone a hotel, has ever done.

The priceless collection of artworks sits at home on the walls, sensual fixtures create shadow and mystery in every corner. As you enter the double-height reception, a gothic chandelier, by Lara Bohinc, greets you as you catch sight of the lush foliage of the terraces through the courtyard, which contributed to the hotel winning ‘Best Outside Space’ in the world at the infamous AHEAD Awards in 2019. A three-story-high wall of jasmine flowers (which attract and represent good luck) and passion flowers scent the air with thick perfume, flowers and fruits peek from the canopy to support a feeling of total discombobulation and encourage guests to shed their day to day mental constructs upon entering this surreal take on the Garden of Eden.

The Mandrake is also home to a priceless collection of pieces. The carefully curated artworks – handpicked by the owner – includes pieces from Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Francesco Goya, Jonas Burgert, and a bespoke Thomas Hooper, intriguing soundscapes from sound engineer Pierre-Arnaud Alunni and specially designed Azzi Glasser scents that further create an ambience that is intimate and intriguing at every turn. Deep in the underworld of the theatre, you will find a mural by Norwegian artist Peter John De Villiers.

The Mandrake’s Artist in Residence programme (AiR) extends the artistic interaction of The Mandrake from merely viewing the artworks that adorn the walls. This is a platform for artists and visitors to interact further in the hotel’s exquisitely designed spaces; create original, unique, provocative, and live works of art. The Mandrake’s Artist in Residence programme (AiR) strives to provide an interactive playground, where artists and visitors interact in the hotel’s exquisitely designed spaces to create original, unique, provocative, and live works of art. Hotel guests and visitors witness close-hand the creative process of our artists and are often part of the work itself, becoming an essential element of the photo, tattoo, painting, mural, or music that is created.  Hotel guests and visitors witness close hand the creative process of our artists and are often part of the work itself, becoming an essential element of the photo, painting, mural, tattoo. The Mandrake hosts emerging and established artists and performers, for interactive sessions that truly embrace the ‘stay beyond yourself’ philosophy.
